Images are worth a thousand words, so let me start with my first scratchbuild slot car chassis, about 5 years ago,and painted,detailed and finished resin body by A2M. Ladies and gentlemen, the 1/32 scale Cheetah!
above is the chassis,soldered wire and brass, framed to 2 old REH motor brackets, the rear one holds the rear axle and i made an adaptor/reducer for the motor shaft, while the front REH bracket had "ears" cut off and holds the motor .when i look at this chassis now, the 'raw' construction and soldering feels a little
rudimentary, but at the time I was very 'proud' of this acomplished feat.
Over time, and as my soldering skills improved, my chassis evolved into more complex frames and designs, with moving pans and suspension - much inspired by the late 60's and early 70's commercial racing competition examples of that era that I've researched thanks to the power of the internet.
I will post some of my other builds here, as well, little by little, as this is a 'work in progress'...
Just to illustrate, the following is one of my more recent chassis (although a 2009 build) for a 1/24 scale Revell Ferrari 430 model kit conversion to slot car. Here you can see some of the upgrades to the design (side pans movement to isolate body from motor/running gear vibrations). I will return to analisys of this project later on . Keep tuned on...
